Mark .. Thanks for the quick reply
and for the service you and the board give voluntarily. The board has to decide
what path the Chamber will take. These are my opinions, based on my experience
and my contacts in this community. Please consider what I have to say. Seems to
me that the board, “having a lot on our plates” could use help now
rather than later. Timing is important. 33 people were at wmm yesterday. Summer
is coming. Now is the time to get people involved. If the board insists on
keeping everything to themselves, then in the eyes of the membership nothing
has changed, except now we don’t have a director. Re-organization
(getting committees working, getting volunteers working) should be thought of
as a solution, not a problem – as a way to ease the load, not increase
it. What are the “particular tasks” that the Board has to
accomplish? Why would the Board not want the membership to be part of
accomplishing these tasks? The Chamber has a unique opportunity to pull people
in right now, new people too. A very broad base approach involving as many
people as possible could pay off very nicely for the Chamber and the community.
This is a time to reach out, not pull in. What do you think? Thanks for
considering my ideas. .. George

Thanks for your support and your suggestion. There may be a need for
another community meeting in the following month or so but to be frank, we have
a lot on our plates with the transition as it is right now. I don't want
to come across as unresponsive but the Board has some particular tasks to
accomplish regarding the continuing operation of the Chamber without a Director
before we jump into "re-organization". The meeting a couple
weeks ago was extremely helpful and I took away much more than folks venting.
I wish I could be present at next week's Wednesday meeting but that is our
Board meeting date. I believe the WMM is on our agenda at the request of
Tracy Abel.
I can say right now that I share your vision of utilizing committee's and
volunteers to much greater advantage and that is part of my personal vision to
implement in the following weeks at the Chamber.

Thanks again,
I know this was not an easy thing for you. I wish it could have ended some
other way for Kim, but I agree with your decision and your statement. I look
forward to working with you and the board to get the Chamber on track to serve
the business community and those who see the value of a viable business
environment for Cannon Beach. May I suggest another town meeting. The last
meeting was more of a venting with general solutions being suggested. Now we
need an organizational meeting with people signing up for specific tasks and
committees. It could be billed as a Re-organization Meeting. I think the sooner
the better. There is energy out there now. We don’t want it to dissipate.
It certainly could be held at the Chamber, but I think the Coaster
Theatre would be a venue that would be completely neutral and would add to the
importance of the meeting. Thank you. .. George
